Diamonds Are Still a Girl’s Best Friend; Early December 2020 Sales Results

Independent jewelers are working hard to make Christmas happen this year and it would appear that diamonds are still a girl’s best friend.
The first 15 days of December show our independent retailers up 17.9% when compared to the first 15 days of last December.
Overall units are down less than 1% and average retail sale is up 21% from $429 to $519.
The diamond categories are very strong in December showing an increase of 19.4% in gross sales compared to last year and an increase of 20.2% in units.
The average retail sale is down from $2,021 to $2,002.
Colored stone jewelry is showing up in all key performance indicators with 17.1% growth in gross sales, 11.6% increase in units and the average retail sales is $945, up from $887.
Silver jewelry is up nearly 1% in gross sales, up 3.1% in units and the average retail sale is holding steady at $104.
Watches have also increased their gross sales by 22.6%, despite selling fewer units which were down 3.6%. Average retail sale has gone from $2,681 to $3,320, an increase of 23.8%.
Looks like it might be a Merry Christmas for independent jewelers.
